Paving

The range of available paving materials is enormous. From York stone flags, through a whole range of riven and sawn products, to individual setts and pavers.

As well as employing the traditional York stone which has paved the streets and gardens of our country houses for centuries, we regularly source sandstone, limestone, granite, slate, travertine, porphyry and a range of other materials from Europe and Asia. It is important to ensure that any material is fit for the purpose intended. This particularly means considering grip, hardness, porosity and maintenance requirements as well as overall appearance.

Equally important is selecting the correct pointing material and colour. Some lighter stones can look beautiful when pointed in a darker colour. Equally, darker stones my be outlined to great effect in white.
